Grey Bear Woodworks is a labor of love founded by Trystan Lindquist. After many years as an English professor teaching in Grand Rapids area colleges, Trystan bought a one-hundred year old house in Heritage Hill. While working on the renovation, he came to understand that he loved building and restoring: “I love to work with my hands as well as my mind,” he says.
He then took a year off from teaching in college to once again become a student. Over that year, Trystan completed the highly-renowned course in fine furniture making at the Krenov School in Fort Bragg, California. He returned to Grand Rapids and gathered equipment and opened Greybear Woodworks in the summer of 2011. “I’ve been building furniture ever since,” he says.
